A woman named Naomi contacted the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) hotline from her hotel room in Kansas City, MO. Naomi had been left alone by her pimp while she met with clients and was able to speak freely with the Call Specialist for several minutes. Naomi had met her pimp when she was 19 years old and had been with him for almost 9 years. He would periodically become violent with Naomi, but he would later apologize and offer to make it up to her. He controlled her cell phone use, as well as her access to transportation and money. Recently, Naomi started becoming increasingly afraid of her pimp and felt that his violence was escalating. She expressed to a client her desire to leave her situation, and he gave her the NHTRC hotline number which he had located online. When Naomi contacted the NHTRC she asked for assistance getting out of the situation and indicated that she wanted to meet with law enforcement because of her safety concerns and desire to report her pimp. The NHTRC Call Specialist conferenced Naomi in with a law enforcement agent who went to the hotel and helped her to safely leave the situation. Naomi was then connected with local service organizations for long-term resources and assistance.
