Glossary of terms

Open clients- This term refers to clients that we are currently serving through our Client Services program.

Immigration status- Immigration status corresponds to whether the client is a foreign national or a U.S. citizen. U.S. citizens are referred to as "domestic".

Crisis responses- Polaris Project works closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement to do direct crisis intervention and assesment with potential victims of human trafficking. We respond to law enforcement raids, Assistant United States Attorney calls, calls directly from potential victims, referrals from the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, and calls from other agencies. Staff members are able to provide emotional support, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, emergency housing coordination, transportation assistance, and emergency social services support.


We are currently serving 54 clients in our Washington, D.C. Client Services office. Forty-eight of those clients are female and six of those clients are male.

Between the months of May 2010 and June 2011 the Polaris Project D.C. Client Services team served 50 clients from crisis calls.

Between the months of May 2010 and June 2011 the Polaris Project D.C. Client Services team responded to 24 crisis calls.

We are currently serving 54 clients in our Washington, D.C. office. Forty-six percent (25 people) of those clients experienced labor trafficking; Twenty-four percent (13 people) of those clients experienced sex trafficking, seven percent (4 people) of those are dependents, nine percent (5 people) experienced labor exploitation; seven percent (4 people) experienced sex and labor trafficking; six percent (3 people) experienced sex and labor exploitation.

We are currently serving 54 clients in our Washington, D.C. office. ninety-three percent (50 people) of those clients are immigrants and seven percent (18 people) are U.S. Citizens.
