H. 3757 is a comprehensive bill that strengthens current legislation by supporting victims of human trafficking and combating demand. A state plan for victim’s services would be in place to create access for victims to interpreters, health services, housing, as well as legal and immigration services. The bill works to combat demand by instituting a maximum 20-year sentence for those found guilty of sex trafficking a minor and by raising awareness in communities about the national human trafficking hotline, the risks of engaging in commercial sex, and available victims’ services and methods for reporting suspicious activities. Finally the bill unites law enforcement, Social Services, Department of Health and Environmental Services and anti-trafficking NGO’s in a task force to facilitate the exchange of information and implement a trafficking prevention plan. Let your legislators know that human trafficking is a serious crime and they should use their voices and votes to support critically needed legislation.
UPDATE: This bill passed through the South Carolina House of Representives, please continue to support this legislation and ask your Senator to vote yes on H. 3757
