Polaris Project is a nationally-recognized non-governmental organization working to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002.  Polaris Project is seeking a Program Associate/Program Specialist to provide comprehensive support to the National Training, Technical Assistance and Strategic Planning (TTASP) team and specifically to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC). 

TTASP works to improve the systemic response to protect victims of human trafficking in the United States. The program is designed to provide support to the anti-trafficking field, to improve national, regional and local levels of coordination, and to meet the urgent need of the field for accessible and comprehensive promising practices as well as practitioner-based training, technical assistance, and strategic support.

The National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) is one of TTASP’s key programs – a national, federally-funded, 24-hour hotline that is capable of respond to a wide range of calls from across the United States including crisis calls, tips, and requests for referrals, information and technical assistance.

Position Description:
  • Be primarily responsible for participating in the daily operation of the NHTRC hotline.
  • Field calls and conduct call-related follow up in both English and Spanish from potential victims, service providers, professionals, community members and students.  Most calls elicit timely responses to tips and requests for general information, technical assistance, local referrals and/or information about services for victims of human trafficking.
  • Assist in the maintenance of several administrative aspects of the NHTRC program, including library and database maintenance; coordination with local actors in the field; and other projects as they arise.
  • Engage in systems-level analysis of NHTRC infrastructure and assist in the development and execution of new program metrics and evaluation.
  • Effectively support existing relationships and cultivate new ones with referral organizations and agencies throughout the anti-trafficking and related fields.
  • Create and revise topical materials for public dissemination and program use.
  • Participate and present at trainings and events for a range of audiences.
  • Research on human trafficking and subsequent creation of topical training materials for dissemination.
  • With other full-time staff, be responsible for several broader TTASP tasks such as the engagement of Polaris Project’s NHTRC Fellows during each of three annual fellowship sessions.
  • Employee will work with other full-time and part-time staff in Polaris Project’s national headquarters office and will directly report to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Program Director, the primary supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Fluency or professional proficiency in Spanish
  • Practical and academic knowledge of the human trafficking movement in the US and abroad
  • Demonstrated experience/volunteer work in human trafficking or related field
  • Demonstrated training or public speaking experience
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and strong research skills
  • Detail oriented and well organized
  • Experience, competence, and confidence working independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working on a victim-centered or resource-oriented hotline is a plus
  • Creative problem-solving skills
