K. Fortin, Esq. | Policy Counsel
Ms. Fortin serves as Policy Counsel to Polaris Project, working on Polaris Project’s policy and legal advocacy efforts. Ms. Fortin became passionate about working on human trafficking issues after recognizing the parallels between human trafficking and the cycles of abuse and deception involved in domestic violence cases, which she committed her pro bono efforts to while working as an associate at the law firm of King & Spalding. Before joining Polaris Project, Ms. Fortin served as Special Assistant on Law and Policy for the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Ms. Fortin graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2006, where she was a Thomas J. White Scholar and Managing Editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy. While at Notre Dame, Ms. Fortin was involved in building more comprehensive, restorative alternatives to resolving criminal justice issues in our society, including her research for Dr. Stephen Covey on his upcoming book focused on the law and our legal system as peacemaking institutions, her service as a juvenile public defender and her volunteer work for the Restorative Youth Justice Project.

Prior to attending law school, Ms. Fortin served as a California Senate Fellow. Ms. Fortin received her B.A. in Rhetorical Theory with a political science concentration and an English minor from Pepperdine University in 2002. Most recently, Ms. Fortin published “The Servant Leader” in the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. Ms. Fortin is a member of the State Bar of California and the District of Columbia Bar.
