Project Description: Polaris Project is a nationally recognized organization working to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002.  Polaris Project is seeking a Public Outreach Program Specialist to assist in the implementation of the National Public Outreach Program, which works to engage community partners and stakeholders, media, and community members in anti-trafficking activities on the local and national level.  Specifically, program efforts focus on state and federal policy advocacy, education about resources and services available through the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC), and awareness-raising.  The position will be based out of the headquarters office in Washington, DC. Under the supervision of the National Public Outreach Manager, the Public Outreach Program Specialist will:

•    Cultivate media contacts and help generate media stories nationally
•    Track day-to-day media on human trafficking and related issues
•    Be responsible for the day-to-day public outreach and awareness-raising to community partners and stakeholders
•    Provide support to local coalition efforts
•    Develop and distribute resources and informational materials
•    Maintain database of community partners, stakeholders, and media contacts
•    Supervise Public Outreach Fellows

•    Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Resiliently positive and energetic attitude
•    Experience with and demonstrated commitment to combating human trafficking or similar human rights violations
•    Experience, competence, and confidence working independently and as part of a team
•    Ability to balance multiple priorities and general flexibility and ease of movement between multiple projects
•    Comfort working with diverse community partners and stakeholders
•    Experience working in multicultural environments
•    Detail oriented

Strongly Preferred:
•    Demonstrated experience/volunteer work in human trafficking or related fields
•    1+ years experience in media or public relations
•    Familiarity with graphic design programs (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
