Position Description: Polaris Project is a nationally recognized organization working to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002.  Polaris Project seeks a DC Task Force Community Liaison position to serve as the point of contact for the DC Human Trafficking Task Force and other related local task forces and coalitions, to facilitate systemic improvements in the local response to human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children, and to arrange and conduct trainings.  The position will be based out of the headquarters office in Washington, DC.  Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the DC Task Force Community Liaison will:

  • Maintain and handle the majority of relationships with law enforcement (local DC police, FBI, ICE, USAO, OAG) as a local liaison for Polaris Project;
  • Serve as Polaris Project’s point of contact (POC) for its participation on the DC Human Trafficking Task Force;
  • Serve as Polaris Project’s point of contact (POC) for its participation on related task forces in surrounding counties, including the Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force, the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, and similar anti-trafficking efforts in neighboring areas;
  • Serve as main point of contact (POC) for other related coalitions and working groups in the DC area, including the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates (DCAYA), the DC Stop Modern Slavery (DC SMS) group, the Housing Subcommittee of the DC Task Force, and other related groups;
  • Maintain positive relations, partnerships, and collaborations with a wide variety of community organizations and social service providers;
  • Serve in a liaison and coordination capacity in relation to client referrals from law enforcement, including as part of Polaris Project’s Sex Trafficking Assessment Team (STAT) Program;
  • Contribute to data tracking and performance measurement efforts in the Washington, DC area regarding collecting data on prosecutions and investigations of traffickers, and services provided to victims, including use of the Human Trafficking Reporting System (HTRS);
  • Contribute to systemic and structural institutional solutions that will improve the overall counter-trafficking response for trafficking victims in the Washington, DC area;
  • Provide trainings on human trafficking and CSEC issues to a wide variety of audiences;
  • Assist in coordinating efforts between Polaris Project programs

  • Comfort and sensitivity when working with survivors of commercial sexual exploitation
  • Resiliently positive and energetic attitude
  • 2 or more years experience in social service provision or advocacy for victims of violence and/or trauma, preferably to survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or torture (preferred)
  • Spanish or Korean language proficiency (preferred)
