K. Stauss | Managing Attorney & Policy Counsel
Ms. Stauss has been with Polaris Project since 2006, and she manages Polaris Project's legal services and policy advocacy efforts.  She has a strong background in human rights law. Before joining Polaris Project, she opened a Human Rights Watch field office in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo where she worked for two and a half years.  Her tasks included documenting war crimes and other human rights abuses in DRC, conducting advocacy, and strengthening the network of Congolese and Rwandan human rights groups. Ms. Stauss also worked on human rights issues in Nigeria and South Africa and has appeared on panels and in the media to discuss the human rights situation in Africa.  After receiving a B.A. from Duke University, Ms. Stauss completed her J.D. at Columbia Law School. During her time at Columbia, Ms. Stauss participated in the Political Asylum Workshop and worked with the Coalition for an International Criminal Court and with two South African organizations: the Legal Resources Centre in Cape Town and the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation in Johannesburg.  Ms. Stauss speaks French, Spanish and German.
